More About Plant Supports
Encouraging garden growth can sometimes involve a little bit more than just planting seeds and hoping for good weather. Plant supports are often necessary to help some of the blooms that are softer, floppier and more prone to blowing over in the wind, and therefore are ideally considered at the planting stage.
Adding plant supports at early stages of growth allows the plants to begin from the very start integrating the support into their shape, allowing the growths to meander where they need and seamlessly integrate the garden plant support together with their roots and shoots.
There are a lot of different types of plant supports that are designed to suit different types of flowers. Long stemmed plants like delphiniums are prone to toppling in wind, whilst peonies are big and blowy numbers that need constant support to prevent them from flopping and falling over and climbing roses need a helping hand to find their place. Rose plant supports do well in shapes like our rose support cage, giving plenty of reinforcement to the beautiful blooms.
Of course, there are different shapes and designs to choose from as well - for example, there are square peony plant supports as well as a round peony support cage option for whether you like the straight edge or curving look. Lobster pots, cloches, rings or obelisks - they all have a role to play.
The shapes of the different plant supports are not only designed to give those flowers and plants reinforcements, but they also add drama and intrigue on their own - especially ones like the steel crown plant cage in its royal-inspired shape. Many of the steel constructed plant supports have additional flourishes or even little sculptures like the daffodil steel plant supports.
These types of plant supports are types of garden stakes that can be up to four or five feet tall, easily planted in the dirt and giving climbers something to grip onto. Others are a cloche shape that can be packed with straw to create instant insulation and protect from a sudden downpour.
Once your shape is chosen, many of the different plant supports also have a choice of finish - usually either in a durable green PVC powder coat that stands up against the weather while blending seamlessly into greenery, or the 'ready-to-rust' uncoated metal finish that develops a unique rustic patina when left to the elements. This style is sometimes less obtrusive in the winter months, blending against the growth unburdened by leaves.
